In all of the 7 continents, 193 countries, 812 states and Myriad cultures in the World – there is 1 Universal Tradition – Weddings! While weddings are common to us all, the way of tying the knot, differs a lot! Here is a look at some of the world’s most unique {weirdest} Wedding Traditions 😛

SCOTLAND – Bride in Black !

Take a bucket  and fill it with the most disgusting things in the world 😱😷. Now, imagine all of your family and friends throwing those things at you and then tying you to a tree. This is the typical tradition (read humiliation 😳) that a regular Scottish bride endures in certain parts of the country. We’re guessing the logic is if you can handle this, you can handle anything, including marriage. What doesn’t Kill you only makes you Stronger 💪🏻!

RUSSIA – Give us a Ransom 💸, Handsome !

Russian Weddings have a host of very interesting traditions. One we cannot get over is – the Bride’s Ransom. Yes! The Groom doesn’t just pay after getting married, he literally pays before as well! On the wedding day, the groom must go to the bride’s family’s and pay a ransom 💰 🎁 (either monetary or with a special gift) to release the bride! Its a fun and lighthearted event when they get to pull his leg! While they say they’re releasing the bride they first sent out a clown in a dress and only on the second attempt, the Real Bride will come out 👰🏻. This traditional ceremony is called vykup novelty and it is the families test of weather he can support the bride financially or not.  And it just below our native ceremony of  Joote do paise lo right out of this race !

GERMANY – Do take a Knife🔪, BOTH Husband and Wife!

In Germany, The couples perform this rather interesting ceremony post the wedding. In what is literally their first act  as man and wife, the newlyweds cut a log together with a two handed saw, also known as Baumstamm Sägen. Together they must chop it in half (which is quite the task we assure you!) to symbolise their ability to overcoming strife throughout the Married Life !

MEXICO – In a Heart from the Start 💗!

In Mexico, the tradition is less taxing and more heartfelt and fun! The wedding guests dance around the couple, encircling them in a heart shape💞 before letting them free to begin their First Dance.

CHINA – Cry me a River 😭!

The Tujia people in China perform a ritual that encourages the bride to cry every day for an hour, a month leading up to the wedding! Talk about tears –  the bride begins crying solo  and then over the 30 days, her mother and grandmother join in. About 10 days before the wedding, the closest female friends and family surround the bride. It is said to be an expression of joy 😅, as women cry in varied tones. Crying constantly is hard – why so much handwork though just make her watch one of our home grown saas bahu shows and the tears will start rolling automatically – Now that’s a Real Sob Story!

SWEDEN – Pucker Up People 😚!

In Sweden, whenever either the bride or groom leaves their table at the wedding reception to use the bathroom their better half gets kissed 😘…a LOT! So, if the groom has to go then every male in the reception will get a chance to kiss the bride 😚 👰🏻 and vice versa…Erm, we suggest the couple dials down the water intake maybe!

NORWAY – Dangle the Bangle !

In Norway, the traditions focus on keeping the evil spirits away from the beautiful bride. Their logic is the beauty of the bride draws the spirits to her. But worry not! they have their own way of keeping ghost at bay. It is for this purpose that the bride adorns a decorative crown bedecked with loud bangles. Norwegians believe that all the noise from the bangles will distract evil spirits 👻 and keep the bridal beauty at Peace😇!

CONGO – Must Frown 😔, when in Gown !

In the Congo, the tradition is more like a general sentiment – and trust us it aint a happy one 😐! Here they believe that in order for the marriage to be taken seriously the bride and groom cannot smile throughout the entire ceremony! We’re not even joking 😒!
